Maybe a lot of writers work in isolation or think they need to, but at least some of them must be like me and would benefit from the social excitement involved in entering the Geoffrey Nutter poetry hive. My friend plugged me into his Saturday poem-making events on Zoom and they transformed my life. He provides a series of fast-paced, fun, keeps-you-moving exercises designed to short-circuit irrelevant thinking and to unleash the power of randomness and a free imagination. You wind up with a ton of material written in lightning-fast bursts. It is like waking up and finding out you’re suddenly rich–you wind up very rich with the potential of what you’ve produced. And the poetry workshops provide a chance to take that material and revise it and think deeply with a group about how to carve out of your material its best potential. It turns out it’s important to the life of the writer to work with and for other writers. Working with Geoffrey makes you really believe in the process and in your own poetry.
