I’ve been attending Geoffrey Nutter’s generative poetry writing sessions regularly for years. They’re fun and have helped me write more poems than I otherwise would have. Geoffrey is a fantastic poet and a generous and capable session leader who guides those in attendance through an array of poetic prompts that can feel more like games than work. One often comes away from a session with several promising “poetic chunks” one can expand on later. One might even produce full drafts of poems. These generative events are open to beginners, experienced poets, and those in between. A spirit of support and discovery suffuses the sessions. Geoffrey has taught at some of the top American universities, yet his seminars are more about practice than theory, and they are the antidote to stuffiness.
