About Wallson Glass

In 2013 Geoffrey Nutter inaugurated a series of seminars called Wallson Glass: a place where poets could get together and write for an afternoon in an atmosphere of great energy, imagination, and good will. In 2020, Wallson Glass went remote–participants now come from all over: recent sessions have gathered together poets and writers from Iran, Germany, Turkey, Finland, Pakistan, Egypt, Uruguay, Qatar, Mexico, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Nepal, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, England, Canada, China, the Netherlands, and every state in the United States, all writing together in a community of kindred spirits who come together to live the life of the imagination.

About Geoffrey Nutter

Geoffrey Nutter is originally from California but has lived in New York for many years. He has published six books: A Summer Evening (winner of the Colorado Prize, 2001); Water’s Leaves & Other Poems (winner of the Verse Prize, 2005); Christopher Sunset (winner of the 2011 Sheila Motton Book Award); The Rose of January (Wave Books, 2013); Cities at Dawn  (Wave Books, 2016), and Giant Moth Perishes (Wave Books, 2021); his book-length poem Emissaries is coming soon. His work has also appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Best American Poetry, Granta, Fence, and The New York Review of Books.

Geoffrey studied poetry at the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop, where he was awarded the Academy of American Poets Prize by Mark Strand, and has taught poetry classes at Princeton University, The New School, New York University, Columbia University School of the Arts, the 92nd Street Y in NYC, and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He has also taught poetry-writing to children in New York, China, and Paris. Geoffrey has collaborated with many artists and composers. He recently traveled in China, visiting universities and schools and giving lectures, workshops, and readings as a participant in the Sun Yat-sen University Writers’ Residency. Geoffrey’s poems have been translated into Spanish, French, Russian, and Mandarin.

Geoffrey is a dedicated teacher, deeply committed to sharing with other poets the broad imaginative possibilities of poetry, to exploring how poets look at the world in and through their poems, and to helping aspiring writers see how poetry can reinterpret the world and build worlds.

About Our Community

The Wallson Glass community is…

  1. people of any and all ages who want to meet and be around other poets and writers.
  2. poets who graduated with their MFA in poetry and, in life after grad school, are craving to have that kind of community in their lives again.
  3. anyone who loves language and wants to explore the imagination, and discover things about themselves and the beauty and mystery of the world through words.
  4. people who are coming to (or are returning to) poetry after a career of doing something else: lawyers, journalists, doctors, architects, therapists, ad executives, teachers, caregivers, mothers, fathers, etc.
  5. the “poetry curious” of any level of experience who feel the art calling to them.
  6. people who have published books but want more poetry and writing in their lives.
  7. aspiring poets who have kept their love for poetry “a secret” from others but are ready to take the next step.
  8. those who want a writers’ community but do not want to go the traditional MFA route.
  9. those who hope to someday attend an MFA program and want to hone their craft and build and improve their portfolio of work.
  10. not only poets, but creative artists of all types: fiction writers, playwrights, filmmakers, visual artists, musicians, composers, etc.
  11. creative and curious people from all over the world. Recent participants have joined from places like—to name a few—Qatar, France, Canada, England, Pakistan, New Zealand, Austria, Nepal, China, Brazil, Finland, Germany, U.A.E.,  as well as every state in the United States.
